My Name is Sean K., I'm 15, I attend Fall Mountain High School, and I can't get enough of NEYT.
My first experience at NEYT was when I tried out for Comedy of Errors in the 6th grade. During the course of that show, I became hooked. I had never experienced the level of instruction or professionalism in any other theater. Since then, I have taken a variety of classes to help me in the shows. I also participated in Actour.
After Comedy of Errors, I played Theseus and Musterdseed In Midsummer Night's Dream. From there on out, I have tried to participate in as many shows as I can. I have done Shakespeare's Greatest scenes with David Vann (a lot of fun!), It's A Wonderful Life, West Side Story, As You Like It, Grease, Cybelline, and Pajama Game. I'm currently in My Fair Lady as well.
While at NEYT, I have learned how to let myself go onstage. At first I was shy and a little bit embarassed if I did anything unusual onstage. Stephen and the other directors (along with my friends) helped me out of my little shell and taught me to fully embody my character.
My favorite character would have to be Guidarius from Cybelline. I loved the fight scene between me and Taylor Patno because it was just really funny (even though it did end with him being beheaded). I had never had the chance to play someone who was a little bit crazy. I felt that I was able to do more while still being realsitic.
NEYT has taught me to really love theater. It provides the greatest rush knowing that there is a very small margin for error in front of a live audience. I also love the fact that you're able to try different things for different shows. My only regret is that I'm unable to spend more time at NEYT. When I'm not memorizing lines or blocking, I'm usually doing homework or practicing fro football, XC skiing, or track. Nevertheless, NEYT will always have a special place in my mind and heart along with the great and unique people that make it work.
