NEW ENGLAND YOUTH THEATRE ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF
The TRUE Story of Pinocchio, DIRECTED BY ERIC BASS.
The New England Youth Theatre presents The TRUE Story of Pinocchio,
opening February 5, 2009 and performing for two weekends.
Rich in metaphor and decidedly darker than the popular cartoon version of
the tale, The TRUE Story of Pinocchio has been faithfully adapted from
Carlo Collodi’s original Italian novel by director Eric Bass. First
serialized from 1881-1883 as “Le Avventure di Pinocchio” in Il Giornale
dei Bambini, the story was completed as a book for children in 1883 and
became an instant success.
Not able to develop his physical humanity until he has found the humanity
of love and kindness, Pinocchio remains one of the great examples of
"growing up" and of finding that love comes with a responsibility to
oneself and to others. Performed by a company of actors age 12 and older,
the production employs an extensive use of shadows and silhouettes.
The TRUE Story of Pinocchio is presented Thu-Sun, Feb. 5-8 and 12-15.
Evening shows are Thu at 7:00 pm, Fri & Sat at 7:30 pm.
Matinees are Sat & Sun at 3:00 pm.
