NEW ENGLAND YOUTH THEATRE
THE MAY AWARDS (Revised November 2011)
New England Youth Theatre is once again accepting applications for the May Award.  Intended for the most  promising  graduates of NEYT, and funded by an anonymous donor, this scholarship is designed to help exceptionally talented and dedicated NEYT students  to succeed in the theatrical arena, and to become leaders in their  field.  The hope is that they will then give back to NEYT with their time, talent, and reputation, and, when able, with financial support.  The intention is that NEYT become known for supporting and promoting talent, which will encourage new and promising students to align themselves with NEYT throughout  their elementary, middle, and high school years.
NEYT will award one $20,000 or two $10,000 scholarships each year, assuming there are applicants who, in the opinion of the selection committee, fulfill the criteria for the award.  The criteria for consideration for this award include, but are not necessarily limited to:
-talent, as observed over time in performances and classes at NEYT.
- work ethic, leadership qualities, dependability, focus, cooperation, mentorship.
-positive contributions to NEYT and to the larger community.
Applicants  must  be accepted at  a recognized institution in a program of professional training in the theater arts for the following fall.  These  institutions  may include, but are not limited to, conservatories, theater training programs, and schools with established theater departments with a theater major.  All alumni of NEYT are eligible to apply for this award, if they fulfill the criteria set out above.
Theater arts is understood to include acting ,producing,  directing, design, lighting, and costuming for the stage, as well as for  the related fields of television and film.
The application process will consist of written answers to a questionnaire, and  proof of acceptance to, and intent to enroll in, an approved course or program.  A committee of NEYT faculty and advisers will meet to review the applications, and will request interviews with selected candidates.  After these interviews, the committee will meet again to review applications, and the final decision will be announced by mail.
Scholarships may be renewable on an annual basis if applied for, and if all of the above criteria are being met.  The committee reserves the right to contact the applicant’s place of study to ensure that the student is meeting those criteria, and that the work he or she is doing qualifies under the terms of the award.
Candidates being invited to an interview will be asked to bring their current FAFSA application, if submitting one.  Otherwise, parents’ most recent tax returns will be considered acceptable.
