NEYT announces recipient of 2011 May Award
The New England Youth Theatre is proud to announce that Taylor Patno of Guilford is the recipient of this year’s May Award.  He will be attending Circle in the Square Theater School in New York City.  This is a highly acclaimed two-year conservatory, directly affiliated with a Broadway theater.
Taylor shared with us his reason for selecting Circle in the Square Theatre School:  "I chose it because New York City is the place to be! If I want to be really immersed in acting and the atmosphere of theatre, then New York City is the place! I have also loved New York City for years and I have known for a while that I want to be there."
The May Award was created in 2008 with a gift from a generous donor who specified that NEYT should select from among graduating seniors or alumni, one or two applicants who, in the opinion of the selection committee, would succeed in their chosen field of theater training.  The hope would be that recipients would then give back to NEYT with time, talents, and, if possible, financial support.
This year seven well-qualified applicants vied for the May Award.  There have been a total of four recipients of the scholarship since its creation in 2008.  Two of these individuals are currently working in the theater and film industries, and the other two are currently pursuing professional theater arts degrees from top universities in the field - Carnegie Mellon Institute and the University of Evansville.
Taylor Patno has had a 6-year career at New England Youth Theatre.  Most recently he appeared in the production of My Fair Lady, directed by NEYT founder and Artistic Director Stephen Stearns.  Patno played Professor Higgins in this production, culminating his wonderful acting career as a student at NEYT with one of the crown jewels of musical theater.
“I am so astonished and proud at the progress of NEYT over the past couple of years. The impact that NEYT has created, and continues to create on the Brattleboro community is amazing. I am truly honored to call it my home and ‘birthplace.’” says Patno.
Taylor looks forward to joining the NEYT Alumni Association and returning to perform with his peers when he is available.  This summer, he is giving back to the NEYT community by working as Assistant Director for the up-coming summer program production of Beauty & the Beast, Jr.
