True and False: Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor - David Mamet

"Mamet manages to demolish the myths...that pass for theory with regard to acting and directing...True and False is a revealing book of the highest order and a pleasure to read."

Anthony Hopkins

"This book should be read and considered by everyone who acts."

Steve Martin

Sanford Meisner - On Acting.

This is the book I keep coming back to again and again. Meisner was a contemporary of all those wonderful teachers who came out of the Group Theatre and spread "the method" approach to acting - real and truthful behavior onstage.  But his teaching style feels to me the most honest, simple and unpretentious.  As the book jacket declares, it's "a primer for beginners and a  refreshing reexamination for the professional."
