scoop on summer performances. Dedicated to NEYT alumni, this issue of
News and Notes also includes information on this week’s alumni show, a

Alumni Show Starts Tomorrow!
**********************************************************************
This weekend, NEYT friends and families have the opportunity to watch
NEYT alumni perform Moliere’s "Tartuffe," a farcical comedy about a
family usurped by a tyrannical religious fanatic, who turns out to be
an impostor and total hypocrite.

If you’re involved with NEYT, chances are you’ve met an NEYT alumnus,
perhaps as a faculty member, director, choreographer, or set designer.
The presence of alumni is more than just a testament to the lasting
importance of the NEYT experience. Working with these talented
individuals enriches the learning experience of today’s students. So,
come support NEYT alumni and catch some great theatre!

Feature Story: Alumni Profile
**********************************************************************
Carolyn Wesley, (shown here as Miss Prism in NEYT's first alumni
production: "The Importance of Being Earnest"), has felt a strong
connection to the New England Youth Theater since age 11 when she
appeared as a fairy in "A Midsummer Night's Dream."  She was there
when the theatre found a home next to the Latchis, and so has been
immensely proud of every stage in the theatre’s development since
then. She appeared in Eric Bass' production of the "Good Person of
Szechuan" (2003), and in the theatre’s ambitious 2005 production of
"The Music Man" as Marian Paroo. You can catch her in this week’s
alumni production, "Tartuffe," as Elmire.

Carolyn attends St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where she
majors in English, takes as many theatre classes as possible, and
appears in campus productions.    She hopes that NEYT students preparing
for college will consider St. Olaf as a strong liberal arts program
with great opportunities for involvement in theatre (and particularly
music) in a supportive and welcoming community.

Carolyn remains endlessly proud of her little town and the friendly
theatre monster it created.  She hopes to remain involved in whatever
way she can in the years to come.

The NEYT website offers some wonderful alumni profiles (click on the
link below). If you are an alumnus, we’d love to hear your story. To

 Summer Camp Performances For Everyone
**********************************************************************
During the summer months, NEYT camps offer over 20 performances--each
a gem of energy and enthusiasm. It’s just plain fun to see what NEYT
summer theatre is all about!

Click on the link below and mark your calendar for performances by
Melodrama Camp, Shakespeare’s Greatest Scenes, the Senior Shakespeare

“Leap and the Net will Appear”
**********************************************************************
So, what does this slogan actually mean? Clearly it’s an important one
at NEYT. (It’s even stained on the lobby floor!). In his on-line
column, "Takes and Double Takes," Stephen Stearns (left) writes:

It means that you should...go through all doorways of opportunity.
But, before you do, you must commit to memory and practice daily THE
SEVEN P’S and the THREE A’s that will lead unerringly toward the
achievement of your goals and dreams.

The "Seven P's" and the "Three A's."

Congratulations to May Awards Recipients!
**********************************************************************
From the May Awards Committee:

NEYT is pleased and proud to announce the two winners of the
first-ever May Awards:    Justin Morris, a rising junior at SUNY
Purchase, in the field of theatre lighting;  and Kario Pereira-Bailey,
who is graduating from BUHS. They will each receive a check for
$10,000, earmarked for their continuing education. We would also like
to thank the other talented individuals who submitted their
applications. Bravo to everyone!

The May Awards were created by an anonymous donor to honor
achievement, excellence, commitment, and determination, and the
intention on the part of the recipient to train for a career in the
performing arts, as a performer, director, producer, designer, etc.
The hope is that this money will help the student complete their
training, and give them a leg up in the theatrical world. It is hoped
that if they succeed, they will give back to NEYT by lending their
names, reputations, prestige, and maybe even financial support, to
this wonderful organization.

In closing, we’d like to thank all volunteers for their continued
help. In fact, we’d like to thank you personally at a Volunteer
Appreciation Day on August 29th, so mark you calendars! If you would
like to volunteer over the summer, NEYT needs folks to staff the Box
Office on select Wednesdays 12-5pm. They could also use some help
watering newly planted shrubs and trees a couple of evenings a week,
and help with a mailing in late August prior to Fall classes. If you
would like to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator,
Jody Haley at glh@sover.net.
