ABOUT THE PROGRAM

We offer full and half-day programming throughout the summer for young people ages 6-19. Performance programs include classics like Shakespeare, big musicals, short plays, & melodramas. Our classes include acting, improv, and playwriting. Some programs are by audition; most are by registration.

Brave Young Vaudevillians

AGES 6-9

Looking for a summer program that is fun, educational, and exciting while also incorporating outdoor activities, unstructured play, and theatre arts training? This is the one! We’ll play our way through the summer - singing, juggling, dancing, acting, frolicking, and creating whimsical vaudeville shows to share with friends and family.

Junior Shakes

"Though she be but little, she is fierce!"
–Midsummer Night's Dream

AGES 9-15

Come join our Junior Shakespeare summer program!
Participants will be part of the Senior Company's full production of Midsummer Night's Dream as the gnarly fairy squad, AND they will perform favorite scenes and monologues from the play in their own Junior Shakes Showcase. Working with NEYT's veteran and beloved Shakespeare director, John Hadden, and other excellent folks, students will build performance skills, relationships, their understanding of material, and have a blast doing it. Come experience the joy of Shakespeare that has captivated actors and audiences alike for over 400 years!

Reaching for the Stars

AGES 7-ADULT

For youth and adults with developmental differences and a burning desire to create! Theatre Adventure artists discover interests, talent, self-expression, and a deep well of creativity while reaching for the stars. Join us for three weeks of dynamic and multi-disciplinary theater arts in a mixed ages group. Participants will enjoy acting, clowning, creative movement, percussion, fabric arts, painting, scenic design, shadow theater, and technology. Creativity and inspired teamwork will rule in our inclusive and welcoming environment!

Part-time attendance options are available:
2 days/week (duration of camp): TUITION $300

SPECIAL EVENT
Shining Stars Café on Thursday July 11 from 1- 3 pm. This optional event is a community open-mic hosted by Theatre Adventure performers and HCRS.

Want to learn lots of great stuff about theater while playing fun and funny characters like heroes, villains, and fools? You get to be big, bold, loud, and silly, dress in wild colors, get sprayed with water or shaving cream, and at the end of the two weeks, you get to do real live shows for packed houses with audiences that hiss and boo and cheer your every move! The Melodrama Festivals have been NEYT’s most popular summer program for fourteen years running - come join in the fun!

Melodrama Playwriting

AGES 11 AND UP

Have you ever wanted to write your own play? Well, look no further! Whether it’s melodramatic character design, comedic dialogue, or stage directions, this workshop is an excellent place to start! Join us, following our annual Melodrama Festival, for workshops, games, creative writing exercises, engaging feedback sessions, and guidance in common styles and techniques for putting together a fun and entertaining short script.

AGES 11 AND UP

Spend the week exploring skills that will serve you your whole life -- in or out of the theater – thinking on your feet, working collaboratively, keeping focus, and having fun! The best part is that in the learning of these things we also have a great time! We'll explore traditional theater games as well as short form, long form, and structured improvisations. Come play!

Summer Shorts

Directed by Putnam Smith

AGES 9-15

In Summer Shorts, we choose several short plays that have an emphasis on fun, contemporary, and often comedic material. Students work and play together over the course of this one week program, getting the shows ready for performance, while bonding with each other and sharpening their acting chops. Every student gets cast in at least two of the shorts, giving more opportunity to try out new things, and stretch different acting muscles. No audition required. Registration is first-come-first-served.
