ABOUT THE SHOW
What do you call a tour-de-force performance inspired by seahorses? A tour de horse!
As trans boy, and dad joke enthusiast, Beau, considers becoming a pregnant father, he consults childhood memories and his own future fantasies as he decides if he is cut out to be a seahorse daddy. Confronting the questions “Am I ready? Am I worthy? Am I doomed to repeat the same mistakes as my own parents?” Beau grapples with external misconceptions and internal qualms about conception. Beau faces his mom, a fisherman daddy, a stray seal, a precocious child, and a cyclops sea creature, all played by the same virtuosic actor. Expect poetry, puppetry, and dad jokes.
This version of seapony was filmed during a live show at Dixon Place Theater in NYC. Find out more about the show on IG @seapony.play.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP / CONVERSATION
The excerpt screening of seapony will be followed by a 90 minute community workshop and conversation around gender-expansive family-making and other themes sparked by the screening.
The event is by donation and open to the community. All proceeds of this event will go towards supporting the continued life of this production.
While everyone will be encouraged to stick around for the conversation after the screening, there will be a break between the screening and workshop/conversation for snacks and exits.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
For this intergenerational event, we welcome adults, families, and anyone aged 10 and up to participate.
This show is about making-family and rearing children while trans. While it was written with adult audiences in mind, it includes, puppets, dad jokes, and plenty of playfulness for children to enjoy.
seapony is especially for anyone shedding societal expectations of what it means to make a family, anyone on a lifelong journey of gender euphoria, anyone healing their inner child, and/or anyone striving to become the kind of parent they needed.
