Costume

Director: Monika Grist Weiner

Ages 10 - 14 | 2 weeks, July 8 - July 19
9am - 3:30pm

Have you ever wondered how costumes are created for NEYT shows? This summer, NEYT is offering our Costume Design Camp where campers will learn the behind the scenes process of a costume designer. We will begin by learning the elements of costume design: color, texture and silhouette. Costumers will get to do various "project runway-like" design challenges to get them familiar with thinking like designers. This camp will run concurrently with Melodrama 1 and campers will be guided by NEYT Head Costumer, Monika Grist Weiner as they learn about and costume a real production. The campers will read the script, pull costumes, assist with fittings and alterations, and crew the performances! Interest in learning to sew by hand and machine is a must!

Director: Ben Stockman
Assistant Director: Jim Maxwell
Dramaturg: Robyn Jensen-Tode

Ages 13 - 19 | 3 weeks, July 29 - Aug 16
9am - 4pm

This three-week immersion program offers a more intensive and rigorous theatre experience for our senior company students, exploring the literary classic The Cherry Orchard. Participants are given the support they need to develop their skill with language, voice, and physical storytelling as they rehearse a fully produced play.

A farce with feeling, The Cherry Orchard is the story of a formerly wealthy family who reconvenes at their manor to save it from foreclosure. However, their lives of privilege and excess have ill-prepared them for this crisis, and even the simplest of solutions prove to be near-impossible tasks for the erstwhile aristocrats. Will they heed the words of their financial advisor and save their homestead? Or be forced to watch while their precious estate is gobbled up by the newly arisen bourgeoisie?

To better utilize the three weeks of camp for learning and rehearsing, there will be a casting workshop and preliminary costume fitting prior to the start date of July 29. Casting Workshops will be held May 7th and 11th from 3:45 - 5:30pm at NEYT Campus.
